APRIL: French Month in Los Angeles
In April, French culture shines in the Southwest of the United States! Many festivals , dozens of French and Francophone musicians, artists, directors, actors, curators etc. and many other performers not to be missed .
David Guetta, Stromae, Yelle, Madeon, Christine and the Queens, Lilly Wood and the Prick, Magma, Martin Solveig, Gesaffelstein, Brodinski, Kistuné, Cedric Gervais, DJ Snake, Keren Ann, IAM... This month goes without precedent for the sheer number of Francophone concerts that will take place until the end of the month.
April is also the the month of French Cinema with COLCOA, a 9 days of French Films Premieres in Hollywood (April 20 -28) and the American Cinematheque celebrating Agnes Varda.
Visual art and photo will be featured at the end of the month with Vincent Lamouroux’s Projection and the third edition of Paris Photo Los Angeles.

FESTIVAL
Le Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (Festival de musique et d’arts de la vallée de Coachella), plus communément appelé Coachella Festival, est un événement organisé par Goldenvoice qui se déroule chaque année sur trois jours (généralement le troisième ou quatrième week-end d’avril). Rendez-vous cette année les 10-12 avril 2015 et 17-19 avril 2015 à Indio, en Californie.
The 19th COLCOA FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL will run April 20-28 at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles. Now a 9-day event, the festival will showcase a record of 68 films, including 3 World Premieres, 7 International Premieres, 14 North American or U.S. Premieres, 16 West Coast Premieres - and 20 new shorts. The largest French film festival in the world will introduce a new competition dedicated to films and series produced for television.
The Newport Beach Film Festival (NBFF) is an annual film festival held in Newport Beach in the U.S. state of California. Held in late April.
French Focus: As part of the European Showcase the Newport Beach Film Festival French Spotlight will be taking place April 28, 2015!
Many French directors’ films are being featured at the 14th Annual Dance Media Film Festival, which runs from April 30th to May 5th. Come see the West Coast premiere of Dancing is Living: Benjamin Millepied by French director Louis Wallecan, as well as Jiri Kylian: Forgotten Memories by directors Don Kent and Christian Dumais-Lvowski, and Natalianne Boucher’s film Continuum.
There will be a French Film Festival at the Glendale Community College in Los Angeles. All films will be played with English subtitles. There will also be French cooking demonstrations and pastry tastings. The film festival is free and open to the public.

VINCENT LAMOUROUX: THE BATES MOTEL, LOS ANGELES
French artist Vincent Lamouroux will transform Silver Lake’s deserted and derelict Sunset Pacific Motel into a temporary and ephemeral art installation. Opening reception of this project supported by Institut Francais on April 26, 2015 from 3PM. Do not miss it!

The journeys of Agnès Varda - captured so beautifully in the recent five-part documentary series "From Here To There" - have brought the director around the world, exploring film and other arts in many different cultures. Join us for a few episodes from the series, along with Varda’s features CLÉO FROM 5 TO 7, Jane Birkin doc JANE B. FOR AGNÈS V., and offbeat romance KUNG-FU MASTER!, costarring her son Mathieu Demy, who will appear in person, and a young Charlotte Gainsbourg.

GRENOBLE AND PHOENIX 25TH ANNIVERSARY
Phoenix and Grenoble sister cities turn 25! In order to celebrate 25 years of friendship, there will be a celebration and reception at the US Airways Center in Downtown Phoenix on Friday, April 24th. Students and staff from local high schools and universities are invited. Open to the public.
CULTURAL EVENTS AND FRENCH EDUCATION
In homage to its sister city in Europe, Los Angeles will host the Academy of Bordeaux from April 12th to 15th. The Academy seeks to build partnerships will Los Angeles businesses and further strengthen the economic ties between the two cultural hubs.
They accompany a delegation of Bordeaux high school students, who will be welcomed at Palisades Charter School from April 12th to 19th.
To celebrate the English translation of her book, “On n’est pas là pour disparaître,” Olivia Rosenthal will tour at USC, Otis, San Diego University!
The Alliance Française of Pasadena will welcome Olivia Rosenthal on April 17th, from 7-9pm.
April 29 at 6:30pm : A “Literary Night” dedicated to reading aloud, audiobooks and “made in France” works. The conference will be presented in French. Event organized by the Alliance Française of Los Angeles

COMING UP:
BILINGUAL FAIR at UCLA May 3rd. Bilingual education is booming! More and more parents understand the benefits of a bilingual education for their children. More and more options are now available all over the city, in both private and public education. The Bilingual Education Fair, organized by French Morning, a web magazine, is the premier event for all interested in this movement that’s changing the face of so many schools in the city and the country.
The event is geared toward parents who can meet all the actors of the bilingual education community in a single space. The exhibitors (schools, publishers, education businesses…) all practice and promote bilingual education in all languages (French, Spanish, Chinese, Italian, German, Korean, Japanese, Arabic, Hebrew, etc).
