Broadcast Sunday, June 5, 2 p.m.
@ Walt Disney Concert Hall
As part of the LA Phil LIVE initiative, brothers Renaud and Gautier Capuçon will play four performances of the Brahms Double Concerto with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, June 2-5. The final performance on Sunday, June 5 will be broadcast to over 450 movie theaters across North America, and to celebrate the event Virgin Classics will release a specially-priced download-only album of the brothers performing the work.
The Capuçon brothers (Renaud, violin and Gautier, cello) are among the forefront of today’s young musical talents, hailed by the New York Times as “a noteworthy addition to the current Who’s Who in musical families.” Both have captured numerous international awards playing as soloists, with each other, or in chamber ensembles with luminaries such as Martha Argerich and Daniel Barenboim. Although already established in the top musical echelon of Europe, the Capuçons are looking to break out onto the American scene with this exciting upcoming concert and broadcast.
The video broadcast of the Double Concerto and Brahms’ Symphony No.4 will be the third and final in series of three programs presented in movie theaters throughout the U.S. and Canada (for more info on the other concerts, please visit www.laphil.com/LAPhilLive). Virgin Classics will be re-releasing the best of the Double Concerto, to be available starting May 31, 2011 as a download only at the special price of $3.99.
