Professor Delmas directs the UCLA ENGAGE program. This real world energy behavior lab develops novel methods to encourage consumers to conserve energy. The extent to which consumers adjust energy usage depends on the type of information that they receive. The study applies insights from behavioral science to design optimal interventions for changing energy use behavior.
Finding cost effective ways to reduce consumption will have a measurable impact on air quality, greenhouse gas emissions, and electric reliability. The program has realized significant energy savings among pilot study participants. In California alone, energy savings could amount to 5-20%, resulting in millions of dollars of savings and significant reductions in CO2 emissions.
