UNESCO Latin-American network for education on the Holocaust and genocides [fr]


Created in 2013 by UNESCO, this regional consultation invites Latin-American countries to work together on educational questions. This year, Los Angeles has been chosen to hold its annual workshop, in close partnership with the USC Shoah Foundation.

The workshop was held from 9th to 11th September, and dealt with questions such as adapting teaching of history and school programs in Latin America on lessons learnt from the Holocaust and crimes against humanity.

Mr. Christophe Lemoine, Consul General of France in Los Angeles, hosted a reception for the the workshop participants at the Residence of France on September 9th 2016. Among them Karel Fracapane, Senior Project Officer Section of Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship and Stephen Smith, Executive Director of the USC Shoah Foundation. Representatives of ministries of education of Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay, also attended this ceremony.

Indeed, France is associated to this project; through governmental actions, organizations and also associations, such as the Yahad – in Unum association.
