Quincy Jones receives Sacem Award in Los Angeles [fr]
Sacem awarded a special prize to Music Legend Quincy Jones to salute his entire career on April 25 at the Residence of the Consul General, Christophe Lemoine.
Legendary musician and producer Quincy Jones received the Sacem Medal, honoring his contribution to the world of music, during an exceptional ceremony held at the Residence of France in Beverly Hills, by the Society of Authors , Composers and music publishers (Sacem), one of the world’s leading copyright collecting societies.
Quincy Jones was first known in the 1950s through his talents as a jazz arranger and artistic director, before becoming one of the most influential jazzmen of the twentieth century. He is also known to the general public for his work as a composer and producer with great artists such as Michael Jackson, Céline Dion, Frank Sinatra and Aretha Franklin.
With 79 nominations and 27 awards, Quincy Jones is now the most nominated Grammy Award-winning artist in the world and second in number of trophies.
At the age of 12, he began playing the trumpet, before obtaining a scholarship at the University of Seattle, then at the prestigious Berklee College of Music. It is during his school years in this illustrious establishment, that he goes on tour with Lionel Hampton, an opportunity which will mark the beginning of his professional career.
In 1957, following several international tours, Quincy Jones finally settled down in Paris, where he lived for seven years. He studied classical composition with Nadia Boulanger, a famous French pianist.
Years later, Quincy Jones was also recognized for his several charitable activities within the framework of the foundation he created. In 1985, he brought together many famous artists to record the anthem "We are the World", and raised tens of millions of dollars for humanitarian aid in Somalia.
