Scientific Mission on Nanobiophotonic, March 17-21, 2008
This mission was organized by the Office for Science and Technology and aimed to facilitate contacts between French and American experts in Nanobiophotonics.
The program was established by the Scientific Attaches in Los Angeles and Houston, with the participation of French experts belonging to the delegation : Hervé Rigneault, MOSAIC Group Leader in the Institut Fresnel (Marseille), Sophie Brasselet, Scientist at the Institut Fresnel, (Marseille), Catherine Royer, Director of the Structural Biochemistry Center in Montpellier, Atigoni Alexandrou, PI in the Optics and Biosciences Laboratory of the Ecole Polytechnique Palaiseau, Claude Boccara, Professor in the Ecole Supérieure de Physique et Chimie de la Ville de Paris, Valentina Emiliani, Wavefront-engineering microscopy Team Leader in Neurophysiology and New Microscopies Laboratory (Université Paris Descartes), Laurent Cognet, Scientist at the “Centre de Physique Moléculaire Optique et Hertzienne” (Université Bordeaux 1) and Didier Marguet, Head of the Membrane Dynamics Laboratory in the “Centre d’Immunologie de Marseille Luminy”. 6 famous universities were visited : Harvard University (Cambridge), Columbia University (New York), University of California (UC) Davis (Sacramento), UC Berkeley, Stanford University (San Francisco) and UC Irvine.
Visits were divided in two parts : a round table discussion and a visit of the laboratory. Discussions were extremely enriching and prospects of scientists exchanges were tackled.
A workshop on the same topic will be organized in France next year aiming at consolidating these first interactions.
