The film will be followed by a Q&A with the two filmmakers, moderated by Villa Albertine’s new director in Los Angeles, Aude Hesbert. The screening is presented by the American Cinematheque at Los Feliz 3 Theatre.

About the Film

Talcum, Eastern Kentucky. A remote rural area where people often feel more connected to the Appalachian Mountains than to the rest of America.

For decades, Brian Ritchie and his family have been living there. However, with the closure of the mines and no alternatives in sight, the residents have witnessed an explosive mix of economic decline, ecological disaster, and social violence.

In the US, they are often referred to as "hillbillies," a term that some of them use to define themselves, almost as a provocation.

Among them is Brian.

Caught between a mythical past and an uncertain future, Brian is one of the last witnesses of a disappearing world that inspires his poetry.

Directors: Diane Sara Bouzgarrou & Thomas Jenkoe
